- Could it be a bad cable which just happens to work now that you
- have (probably) moved it a few times... I had somehow similar
- problems a while ago (my system didn't work if CD-ROM was as the
- 1st drive) and after long search I noticed that one line of
- my self-made SCSI cable was broken. It happened to work (i.e.
- those wires were in touch) when I put a HD in that place but
- when I put a CD-ROM there it didn't work (probably because the
- CD-ROM is larger and the cable was bent more).
